Natural Dye Day at Peinhardt Living History Farm

Come and do some natural dyeing with us on Saturday June 23, 2018, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Peinhardt Living History Farm, Cullman, AL. Yellow dye comes from flowers, leaves and onion skins. Red comes from insects. Brown comes from nuts. We’ll use plants, trees and insects to color fibers. We’re planning black walnut hulls, pecan shells, marigold blossoms, mimosa leaves, onion skins, Queen Anne’s lace, cochineal, logwood, indigo and a couple of other dyes. Learn how to prepare the fiber and the dyes. At the end of the day, you’ll have a rainbow of colors.

Supply Fee: Option 1 = $5, chemical fee if you’re bringing up to one pound of your own fiber already mordanted, or up to one pound of wool fiber washed and ready to mordant;
Option 2 = $15, chemical fee and one pound of wool yarn washed and ready to mordant.
Fee to be paid to leader at the beginning of the workshop.
Pre-registration deadline: June 9. Maximum Number: 15. Workshop open to adults and youth ages 14 and up. For driving directions, see peinhardtlhf.tumblr.com/directions. For pre-registration and more information see the May or June Guild Newsletters.

Tour de Fleece

The 2018 Tour de Fleece will be July 7 – July 29, 2018. This is a challenge to spin every day the Tour de France rides. The Interweave site has last year’s information, but hopefully they will update it soon, https://www.interweave.com/article/spinning/get-wheels-spinning-tour-de-fleece/. Will you accept the challenge?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this event, it was started by Ravelry as a fun way to spend a little time celebrating spinning while the Tour De France is “spinning”.  This event is very informal and relaxed.  The only rules are to try to spin every day of the Tour De France (July 7-29 with the exception of rest days) and to set your own challenge!  Your challenge can be simple – i.e. spin for 15 minutes per day, or ambitious – i.e. try a new technique, or type of fiber or try for a speed record!  Everyone’s goals will be different.  There are multiple local teams as well as general groups – join as many as you’d like and have fun egging each other on!  For more information see  http://www.ravelry.com/groups/tour-de-fleece.

Spin in and Officer nominations

What: Spin-In
When: Saturday May 19, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where: Bailey Cove Public Library
1409 Weatherly Plaza SE, Huntsville.

Join us for a Spin-In. Bring your spinning wheels and drop spindles, or other fiber projects. Bring your exotic fibers for show-and-tell. Those in the Deb Menz Study Group will have colorful fibers to show.

Don’t be shy if you are a beginner. You know how we like to talk about and show our fiber projects.
