Sheep to Shawl Contest

Update: Congratulations to the Sparkle Cats, from Sparkle Studio and the Foldout Cat Studio, winners of the Grand Prize and to the Girls on Fire, representing the Senior Center, winners of First Prize AND the People’s Choice Award! Three cheers for the Huntsville Fiber Guild members who coordinated the event for their vision, persistence and hard work to manage the myriad details involved!  HFG’s team, the Alpaca Punch Rocket Weavers, won second place. The finished shawls were all beautiful.

The Huntsville Fiber Guild will be hosting a Sheep to Shawl Contest on Saturday September 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. as part of the Spin in Public Day celebration being presented by Sparkle Studios and Fold Out Cat Studio at Lowe Mill.  Teams will compete to process animal fiber, spin yarn and weave it into a shawl.  There will be a $200 team grand prize, plus other prizes.  Register your team to be assured a spot by email to HsvFiber  There are no registration fees.  Teams will provide all their own supplies and equipment.  All skill levels are welcome.  Any type of animal fiber which has been washed but not carded and may be dyed.  Any type of loom to produce a shawl 20 inches by 72 inches, or at least 1440 square inches.  Individuals may register and be randomly placed on teams.
