Enjoy weaving but don’t like all the setup? Want to learn to weave or try out various weaving patterns? Well, we’ve got you covered! We plan to set up several 4 and 8 harness weaving looms with various colored warps and allow you to come and weave a cotton kitchen towel.
The workshop will be held Saturday February 19, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm at a member’s home studio in Toney, AL. Supply fee: $6 per towel, due at end of the workshop.
Contact the guild and pre-register by February 5 to reserve a loom or to get the address and driving directions. You will be welcome if you do not pre-register, but you might have to wait for equipment to free up at the workshop.
If you enjoy the pre-weaving setup or want to learn, you can help us dye the warps, choose weaving patterns, and warp the looms on various Saturdays between now and February to prepare for the workshop. Contact the guild and tell us you’re available to help and we’ll e-mail or text you and let you know when we’ll be working. No experience is required; we’ll teach you along the way.
With spring comes shearing season for all those fiber critters out there. After shearing the fleeces are usually sold without any cleaning so we’ve had some requests for a fleece processing workshop. Got a dirty fleece you want to spin or felt but don’t know how to clean and prepare it for use? Want to learn to spin or felt but don’t have any wool? Well, we’re planning a workshop to teach you how to turn that dirty fleece into clean beautiful fiber for spinning or felting. We’ll be buying some fleeces for people who want or need them; then we’ll be skirting, washing and air drying them. After the workshop, if there’s enough interest, we’ll plan for a fiber picking and carding workshop.
The workshop will be held Saturday March 19, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm at a member’s home studio in Toney, AL. Contact the guild and pre-register by March 5 to get the address and driving directions. If you have a fleece that needs cleaning, bring it with you to process at the workshop. If you want to buy a fleece from us, let us know you need one and get you one and sell it to you at our cost prior to the workshop so you can wash it and take it home clean.
